Christmas Crafts For Kids: Christmas Cards Collage.
With Christmas just around the corner what better time for an idea for Christmas crafts for kids?
Every year we receive a mass of cards, many so beautiful it’s hard to throw them away. Then there are the ones from special people that you just have to keep. Are your drawers becoming clogged with cards of Christmas past?
Well, this craft idea will help you to de-clutter and recycle into the bargain. What you will need is a stack of old Christmas cards, craft scissors, glue, glitter, cotton wool, a few of those paper doilies that you use for cake plates and anything else the imagination of your kids can stretch to. Be sure you keep aside the cards that are sentimental. You may regret later having it cut up.
Let the kids cut out interesting shapes from the old cards and assemble them into new ones: Santa, angels, bells, candles, nativity scenes, rhymes, poems etc. You won’t need new cards to stick onto as you can reassemble several cards to make one, covering the writing from past senders. This is a kind of card collage. Many years ago a charity used to do this very thing and stamp their name on the back of the card and sell them. What a great way to recycle Christmas cards and support a needy cause.
Here are some ideas to use the cotton wool – use sparingly. Add to make Santa’s beard nice and fluffy, or use as the trim of his hat. Cover the ground of an outdoor scene for some snow.
The doilies can be cut to use as snow flakes or as ‘lacey’ trim on angels and choral singers outfits. Pretty up a plain looking Christmas bauble with the addition of a few bits of this ‘paper lace’. Kids love glitter and this can be added to any of the finished cards for that extra sparkle.
Christmas crafts for kids should not be complicated. With a little imagination – and kids have lots of that - you can turn your pile of past cards into something special for a new recipient. Let the kids sign their cards and you will delight someone with a card made especially for them.
Christmas Crafts: Wreath Basket
This basket was made by twisting two Christmas colored tea towels and pinning them together. At the join a ribbon was tied to hide the join. The base was made from placing another tea towel in a frizby (a plastic plate would do) and then placing the round of twisted tea towels on the base. This can be filled with any gift ideas, hand made sweets, small trinkets and more -- in fact any small Christmas crafts the kids have made.
